A New Year is Upon Us
Everyone has heard the saying, "Today is the first day of the rest of your life." Many times we hear things and they never register in our minds, they are only fashionable quotes. Let us ponder a few things as this year winds to an end. Can you change anything that occurred during the past year. Those things are gone forever but the effects may linger on for years.
You may have married during the last year, bought a car, had a major loss, obtained the job of a lifetime or found out you have a terminal illness. We can not change what occurs but we have control over how we react to each situation in our life. How did you handle your specific obstacle that you faced this year? Did you blame God? Many times we are very quick to ask God, "Why did you let this happen to me?" We are very slow to sort through our life and find what behavior I could have adjusted that might have prevented the problem.
I have always had a problem with thing like: "Why do little children have to suffer?", "Why did someone close to me die?", "Why did I not receive the job I prayed for?", "Why does someone hate me for doing what is right?" and the list goes on and on. Have you noticed that we are very quick to question God when things do not go as we planned. We are also slow to thank him for the many blessings that he so graciously gives us each day.
You must remember, "Life is to long and it is definitely to short to live in misery." God has been very busy teaching me to go where he needs and wants me, rather than me informing him through prayer where I should be and how it needs to be done. Experience has taught me to diligently strive not to be like Jonah. He refused to go, got swallowed by a large fish, was thrown up on shore, preached to the people God intended, and then he complained because they were not destroyed. We are miserable without compassion. You must preach with a passion but you will not be happy until you have compassion for lost souls.
This is a new year and you cannot change anything that has occurred. You must accept your circumstances and let God lead you where he wants. Treasure each day and every person as if is your last day on this earth, you never know it could be.
In Christ,
"Big Daddy"
